In honor of the fourth of July, I wanted to make some music suggestions.
I sincerely hope you will be outside near a body of water tomorrow. You need an appropriate soundtrack.
I’ve linked the youtube videos from some of the songs featured on a fab summer playlist I crafted today on the subway. They’re not vevo because ew commercials. You can make youtube playlists or get them on spotify, the best thing since sliced bread. I was on my way home from the fabulous NYC Lunch exhibit, free at the New York Public Library.
Now let’s get some music.
Independence Day Jam #1
All American Girl by Carrie Underwood
Ignore the vaguely sexist undertones of this. It’s catchy and gosh darn, it’s american.
The Middle by Jimmy Eat World
If you’ve never screamed out “IT JUST TAKES SOME TIME, little girl, you’re in the middle of a ride,” you are not a human. This song also sounds better outdoors.
Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show
Not only will this song bring back fratty memories, but it will make you feel sort of southern (which we associate with all american despite that whole civil war).
Soak Up the Sun by Sheryl Crow
It is July after all. I dare you to enjoy this song.
I’d Lie by Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift’s early music is very underrated and I’m just going to leave it at that.
Ships in the Night by Mat Kearney
A great song from one of my favorite new artists. You’ll be singing along pretty quickly.
Lucky Jam #7
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson
Jam of the summer, don’t judge.
Ignition Remix by R.Kelly
My friend Julia and I have a rule that this song must be on any playlist we make. ever. This is for you girl.
Love In This Club by Usher
As the sun sets, Usher becomes necessary. People smile when they hear this song. Fact.
Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
A summertime classic for my generation.
Finally, if you have any doubt about what to play, go to Pandora’s summer hits stations. My favorite is summer hits of the 2000s, but all decades are represented.
Have a lovely (and musically pleasing) fourth of July!
