Google Chrome Rocks My Socks

In Mean Girls, an outcast student with lots of feelings attends a workshop for high school juniors. Stressed by all the drama, she says, “I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school… I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy…”

While that girl was batshit crazy and did not in fact attend the school, I’d like to borrow her sentiment for a second (Thanks for the brilliant dialogue, Tina Fey).

Google chrome is my cake filled with rainbows and smiles. If everyone used it, they’d be happier. period.

It’s lightening fast, by far the fastest internet I’ve ever had. I have a relatively new mac but I switched my mom on her very old PC and she noticed a dramatic increase in speed. If that doesn’t convince you…

Some reasons to switch coming at you:

#1: Themes. Google chrome lets you make your browser pretty and personal. They have some themes set up and some made by artists and fashion designers.

My favorite is the Rebecca Taylor, my mom uses a Chihuly one, my sister has Kate Spade. There are tons of options and it makes the internet feel special. I love having a nice desktop but sometimes we’re just staring at a web browser for hours. Make it attractive.

Something for everyone…

#2: Apps

Chrome has an app store and other developers make apps just for google chrome.

My favorite is Watch Doc. It (in the form of a tiny number on the upper right hand corner) notifies you when google docs are updated. As someone on a lot of committees, this is extremely helpful. I can respond quickly, read changes, and keep tabs on projects.

#3. You log in. That means that on any computer you can log in and have all of your bookmarks and browser history right there. It even works on their mobile app!

#4. This one is pretty obvious but there’s amazing google integration. Unlike other browsers, there’s only one bar which is a search bar and the bar for urls. This is so easy if you don’t remember the exact address and means all the typing is on the left side of the page.

Another bonus: It updates automatically when you reopen it so you don’t have to download new versions all the time.

So if you’re still using safari, firefox, or GASP internet explorer, get over it and get to chrome. It will be way better than middle school.
